reloaded windows xp no internet

Specs: Windows XP
installed new cpu and harddrive, then windows xp. all is good except no internet connection

Did you install etherner card's drivers? If it's O/B and you get " can not detect ethernet adapter) please check the bios.

Have you installed all the device drivers for your built in hardware and any other add on hardware.

In particular have you installed your network Interface Card (NIC) driver?
This driver is required for your network port to work.

Look and check this in device manager as follows:
Start > Right click on My Computer and select properties
On the window that opens
Click on the hardware tab
then click on Device manager
Check if your network interface is listed under Network Adapters
check if there are yellow exclamation marks against any devices

Yellow exclamation mark means a driver is missing.

thanks. trying to install driver, will look at device. apparently i do not have all the disk from years ago. thanks again

If you tell us the make and model of your PC or the motherboard used in it if it is a clone then we may be able to help you find any missing drivers.

Also if your NIC is via an add on NIC card then we would also need to know its make and model in order to find its drivers too.

Nothing to do with bios. You need to identify the NIC and install drivers for it.
