Comment:

I have 2 computers and a wifi gateway (USR9108), each PC has a SMC PCI adapter.

I had to reformat my computer and now I have the rebuild everything up. The other computer is accessing internet normally, but mine is not. After installing the driver for the SMC card (downloaded from SMC site), my computer is unable to "see" my wifi network.... what else have I to do?

thx

thanks

Is SSID broadcast enabled on your access point?

well, my knowledge is limited. By access point you mean my router/gateway (USR9108)?

If so, answer is that I don't know how to check it, since the USR programs were gone and I lost the accompanying CD..

One of the questions is if I have to reinstall the net again,....

thanks

Yes, the router/gateway is what I was referring to. If SSID broadcast is disabled, the network utility associated with your PCI adapter will not list the network in the list of networks it can "see". However this does not mean that the network is not functioning. Go to your other PC, check to see what your SSID is, and configure that in the settings of the computer you are having issues with.

well, thanks, and how can I check the SSID of a network?. I saw that Control Panel - Network Connections - Wireless Connection, selecting the wireless connection, properties, selecting the Wireless Networks tab, I see some networks, and the one I target has a property called SSID (the name, in fact)

If this is the SSID, in the other computer (the non-functioning one), I will not arrive to the same point,.... since it sees no net

thx

thanks

well, I saw how it should possibly be done. I will have to ADD a new network, called (SSID) the right name.

Then I have to assign values for Autentication and Ciphred.

In the right PC, values are WPA-PSK and AES, but in the other one, I don't have those values to select from. So, how can I get the WPA-PSK and AES values available in those comboboxes?

thx

thanks

Sounds like your recently formatted PC did not properly acquire the drivers needed to run your wireless NIC.

Double check to make sure your drivers are correct.
