redhat vmware internet connection !

i am running redhat on vmware . . am a linux newbie . .just started using linux a week ago . .am running windows xp ,cable modem . .plz help . . . .how do i bridge connection in vmware?do i need to configure ip in redhat manually ? thanks. .

There are a few ways that vmware allows. Basically you want either a nat or bridge. You might need to allow connections to the vm machine in your firewall settings. See vm ware site for exact ip address. There are some issues with how the network access the outside world. In a bridged setup the ISP might consider the vm machine to be a rouge computer and not allow it. I normally use NAT on a dynamic IP setup and bridged on a static setup.
I really can't imagine you having to setup up ICS or another proxy to get it to work. Be sure you put the correct IP in for dhcp and dns. Check the vm ware site for that. There must be a how to out there.
