I bought a Linksys wireless AP and PCMCIA card and couldn't make it work at home. My PCMCIA card detect another ssid but not my own AP even though they were placed next to each other. I took them to my friend's home and they work beautifully. I try my friend's wireless AP at home and it also works. Only my equipment can't work in my own place. Anything I need to check?
Since Linksys was acquired by Cisco, I can never get technical support again, at least not from Cisco website. Can't understand how Cisco handles customers of their acquired businesses.

Did you use the same cables as you did at home?
When at home can you connect while it's hardwired?First things I would try.
The other questions would be what type of Service DSL or Cable, Static IP,or Dynamic, is your service the same as your friends.
so your telling www.linsys.com does not work?
they do have a fairly decent tech helper.

You need to look at your wireless card and router settings . Did you change the default SSID settings for either the nic or router ? These must match exactly for you to get a link . If they don't match exactly you won't get a link . It's possible you may be getting someones elses network because they have left it wide open broadcasting their SSID which basically allows anyone to get on their network .
