Specs: Windows XP
i have the above in my pc and i am signed up to a 30 m. connection wireless on a laptop i get 25m on the hard wired desktop i get 7 m maximum now i have been advised to upgrade the above but have no idea with any help would be most welcome

You probably need a "PCI Express" network card for that kind of bandwidth (25-30MB) through a wired ethernet connection, as ordinary PCI slots may be too slow and cause a data bottleneck.

If your desktop PC doesn't have any PCI Express slots that means you can't upgrade to a PCI-Express network card so you'll have to try a wireless card in it and see if that improves the bandwidth.
