I've an alcatel usb adsl modem which has been working perfectly until last week & am now having probs getting it to connect to/sync with the line. (nothing in my configurations has been changed).

The usb light always shows ok but the adsl light will constantly flash green. Sometimes it will stop flashing & I can get a connection. (tho most of the time this is slower than normal)..then the connection will drop & the light will flash again..this is a random occurance. One thing I've noticed is it will never connect straight after a pc boot..but flash for ages...also.....when I do have a connection....if I was to unplug the line & put it back again...the connection will not return for ages.

I've had an engineer out & he's tested that the line is ok & as the trouble started when we had bad storms, he's suggested that the modem has been damaged.

Before I go out & spend cash on another modem I would'nt mind a second opinion if anyone else has experienced the same prob & if a new modem rectified the prob.

I've re-routed the cables...unplugged phones....changed the filter....reinstalled/updated drivers to no avail.

Cheers for any help.....Andy..not searched for an answer as I'm copying & pasting this while my connection is up again :¬)

Sorry it's long winded..tried to be as thorough as pos :¬)

(Also wondering if a fault with the mobo would cause the same prob)

The computer is not involved in the sync with the DSLAM at the CO. However defective phones may cause noise on the line. In this case, the filter will not filter it. Try to disconnect all phone, fax, and the filter itself.

The simplest way is to use a friend`s alcatel modem or try yours somewhere else.

didn't think the mobo etc itself would cause this prob...did already disconnect phones etc...never thought of the obvious tho..try the modem on a m8's pc..even better borrow his if it's the same..which I'm going to try tomorrow. Tnx for taking the time to reply Danny..much appreciated..Andy.

Update..(for anyone with the same prob)..Different modem on my pc & all is working well...original modem was at fault..can't understand it as I could connect of a daytime randomly but as soon as 8pm hit the modem would'nt connect at all right thru the night which suggested a line fault...still different modem cured prob..strange world! :¬)
