I now have a question? I have a Dell server with raid 5 in it and want to setup a swap file, someone told me which I don't beleive, he want to reserve 1.7 gig on each of the 3 17gig raid units???? I don't think you can do that.

I'm not understanding what you are asking... You want to setup a swap file? Who wants to reserve what?

Actually Brian....if I'm not mistaken, you don't want to use a RAID 5 for the swapfile. It has to do with the parity. From what I've been taught, and read, for maximum swapfile performance you want to use a RAID 0. Maybe that's what your friend was telling you to do, reserve a portion of each of the disk to create a RAID 0 with to put the swapfile on. Breaking a RAID 5 to reserve portions of each disk for the swapfile just makes no sense all by itself.
Either way, I highly recommend you go to microsofts web site and do a little research there before you go messing with your RAID.
