The Radeon is possibly incompatible with your Dad's motherboard, or a drive of some other component. I tried a Radeon 8500 in my computer, and I finally had to give up and put it in the kid's computer where it works just fine.

You could try updating the motherboard chipset drivers, as well as the drivers for all the components, then try again.

In the end though, you will probably have to do something else with the card assuming that you cannot return it. I have heard of others having compatibility issues with the Radeons as well, including the new 9700 Pro.

Good luck with it.

Well, sounds like your Radeon isn't to compatitble with your motherboard. I would suggest that you find out what brand of mobo you have if you don't already know and go to their website and search for an updated bios that will work with ATI cards. I have heard of other mobo's having this issue as well. Updating any other drivers will of course not work because he can not get a screen with the new video card which would mean it's a direct hardware issue and bios updates are known to fix issues with newer hardware like this...hoping the company that made you mobo is still producing updated bios's...good luck :p

You mainboard's AGP slot must be 4x or set to 4x (multispeed) in the BIOS. It will not work on boards with max AGP 1x or 2x.

Response Number 3 by tech tony is wrong. 4x agp cards clock themselves down to whatever the mother board can handle. I had a 4x agp vid card in my mobo and we have a LOT of them here at work that are 4x in 1 to 2x mobo's. Just go look for a bios update. That should do the trick if there is one for your mobo.

I don't think that any of these posts are pointing out the problem here. I'm not sure this is appropriate to your problem but I went recently to update myself on all the latest video cards out there so I could make an informed choice. Apparently there is AGP v2.0 (or second generation AGP or whatever, I don't remember the specific name). The difference in these cards is that they need a 3.3v power supply from the mother board before they can function. I forget what the benefit of this is but if your computer doesn't supply the power you're going nowhere. I don't think that the 7k series from ATI were second generation but it may be helpful to check out. Hope that helps!
