I just swtiched from Cable HSI to DSL. I am still trying to set up my DSL but am having trouble and Qwest support will not help.

With Cable, I had my modem, which went to a wireless router to provide the Internet to my laptop, then was wired to my desktop. Worked fine.

I installed my DSL modem and went to use my router, but during my router install, a message came up indicating that my DSL modem was configured as as router and that function would need to be disabled prior to installing my router.

I have the Actiontec GT701 DSL modem. I have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router. Anyone know how I can get my modem's router function diabled and my router to work with it? Thanks!

Brian

Some of them have web interfaces just like routers have. Plug the PC directly into the modem and try to open the web inteface the same way.

I can get to my web interface...just to be honest, not quite sure the change I need to make. Also, I do not have the WG model, just GT701.

It might be the NAT function or DHCP server that has to be disbled. Look for those. You can probably disable DHCP on the router to and get the same results. There can't be 2 DHCP servers running at the same time.

The Dlink router is on the same IP address as the Actiontec. So first go into the dlink and change the ip address for the router to 192.168.100.1 then apply - then set up the actiontec to one pc just like a basic setup - run the config cd etc.. - once that is fully functional - attach the router and the other computers to the actiontec (to WAN) like your old setup - then hit the little reset button on the actiontec - let it cycle - let the router cycle after an unplug or reset - then reboot computers if necessary (sometimes it's not) - voila. If you have more questions shoot me an email at guru at gurutogo.net
