question about using a eithernet coupler

Specs: Windows 7
I want to connect two Ethernet cables using a jr45 coupler. If I lay the cables side by side the sequence of the pins and colors are the same run 1 through 8 right to left. When you connect the cables together using the coupler, 1 is match with 8, 2 with 7 and so on. Does this mean that there is wiring in the coupler that matches the wire correctly.

Are you sure this is not a Cross Over. You use cross overs to connect like devices like Computer to Computer or Router to Router. If it is a cross over then you don't want to use it unless you are connecting computer to computer.

It could also not be an ethernet couple but a phone cord coupler. Some phones use RJ45 connectors.
