Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can tell me how to go about changing DNS servers while connected to the Internet. I'm using Windows 98SE and a regular 56K v90 dialup connection. On Windows 98 and ME it is possible to specify DNS servers in the DUN TCP/IP settings before going online. But those settings are only a request and the ISP can reject them during the initial dialup handshaking. I'd like to be able to switch to different servers while online. Is there a way to do this? For example, is there a location where that information is stored that can be manually changed. Any ideas??

I'm confused why you would need to change a DNS server like this...especially if your computer is set up for DHCP which is pretty standard for dialup connections....but...im 99.99% this is not possible without a lot of work or disconnecting and then reconnecting...because all the config info is loaded into memory when the connection is dialed...it would invlove editing the settings stored in memory which means finding its address in memory and then blah blah you get the idea...and that would be a pain in the arse....

Danny,
nslookup sounds interesting. I entered the name on a DOS command line but nothing turned up. Apparently that file doesn't exist on a Win98 or ME system. Can you be more specific? Maybe it's an "NT" utility that comes on systems like WinXP. I wonder what would happen if I tried to run it on Win98?
Neorush,It's too long story to go into how I arrived at wanting to change servers. The short answer is it's mainly a matter of curiosity. Maybe if I can find out which process and where in RAM the server info is kept it might be possible to go in and change it. Any ideas?
