Putting a MAC on a PC Network

Alright... So I have a home network with 3 PCs hooked up. Tomorrow I am having cable internet installed and I am getting things prepared for it. I have two questions:
1) My dad, a die-hard MAC user wants to put his MAC on the LAN for the internet. Is it possible to hook the MAC up to the network?
2) As far as the cable internet... Do I have to designate a computer as a "server" and install to NICs in it? Or can I just plug a cable modem into the Network Hub?
I hope someone has some answers to offer cause I'm really lost when it comes to MAC. Thanks everyone!

1. Macs will work fine with TCP/IP. Pull down The Apple Menu > Control Panel > TCP/IP for configuration settings.
2. If the ISP is using DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) which means that internet addresses are handed out by a server at the providers office they you will not have any problems connecting the cable modem to the hub. If the ISP only allows one connection (or one IP address) then you will need some sort of router whether it is a server or a cable modem router.
In fact, no matter how you connect, I would recommend that you purchase a personal firewall. Pick up a Linksys router and it will handle the DHCP and protect your network from most of the bad stuff that’s out on the wire.
