purposes of a patch panel

Specs: Windows 7
we are required to find atleast 3 purposes. will i be right to give answer as: 1.labelling which helps in tracing a problem, 2.amplifying the strength of the switch, 3.(i've not yet got another possible answer)

Umm, No. Only a repeater, bridge, hub or another switch will amplifies the strength of a switch and only if they are placed half way between the max distance of ethernet.

The only reason I know of for a patch panel is to identify which port belongs to which room and its jack. If there is a problem with a switch you can easily identify which rooms are affected and move their connection over to a new switch.

They are also handy when doing V-Lans so you can identify which v-lan the computer should be connected to.
