OK brief question but if I have a public IP 195.137.*.* and I want this to point an internal address of 192.168.1.131, how do I get DNS to recoginise the public IP as the local IP? Obviously I have already set up forwarding on the router side etc. Thanks in advance!

are you running a web or ftp server on the dmz ? If you have a domain name to match to that IP, I'd just contact your ISP to inquire. If not, you can simply use that IP address in a browser, or ftp software, and get to it, assuming you've configured the router correctly, etc. like http://publicipaddress or ftp://publicipaddress
