I've just bought a Dlink G604T wireless adsl router and G650+ wireless adaptor for my notebook. I can access the internet from my laptop using either wired or wireless. My windows 98SE machine refuses to see the router and cannot access the internet. When I try to ping the router from the 98 machine the host is unreachable. The light on the router says its connected and i know my network card is working. The two computers do not see each other either, for obvious reasons. I previously used a speedtouch USB modem connected to the 98, and some sygate software to share it with the notebook which was just connected with a xover cable. I've set the network TCP/IP settings to automatically obtain IP address, etc.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to make the 98 machine work, without upgrading to XP?

I would uninstall the sygate sharing software, first. Then click START|RUN and type "winipcfg", without the quotes to see what your IP address is. If it looks like 169.x.x.x, then the computer is not connecting to the router. Check the cable again. Check in Device Manager to make sure the NIC drivers are properly installed. Correct the problems you find. Reboot after each correction, if necessary.
Repost what you find.

Thanks Mike, tried all that but no joy. The IP does indeed start 169.xxx. Not getting very far with this and to top it all, the wireless connection keeps on dropping out, although the lights are fine on both router and adaptor.

i have a linksys router, when i don't download anything its ok, but somethimes my network falls out, but the lights on the router are blinking and the packets still sending and reciving. And when i want to download anything my net falls out, and it doesn't work again when i unplug the network cable and plug it again, when i take the power off the router then i have net again. I can download only then when the Skype's call is on. I mean when i can talk to the person i called.
And sometimes it doesn't send packets or recive anything, but the router's lights are blinking
