hi

ive got a LAN set up comprising of 2 pcs. My new pc has windows XP on it and my older pc has windows 98. My win98 computer has a 1024kbps cable modem attatched, with a 10mbps nic card. My winxp computer has a 10/100mbps nic card and they nics are linked with CROSSOVER cable. Everything is fine. The trouble starts with interent sharing. Seeing as my win98 computer never had ICS built in, i downloaded software from sygate.com . Set that up and chose the optnio "this pc connects directly to the internet etc". I then downloaded the sygate software for my winxp computer. I chose the option to be "this computer connects to the interent through another computer etc".

SO anyway that is all fine. The internet sharing does work i get the net on both comps. BUT 5 times out of 10 when I open my broswer... it just says "finding site.." and eventually i get a 404. Other times the page loads like it should.

I have had Zonealarm PRO installed on both pcs at one time, although it is uninstalled and i cleaned the registry with regvac. On the win98 computer the net works great 10 times out of 10. I have also had the sygate firewall installed on both pcs but it is now gone. I thought without a firewall it would work, but im wrong.

Anyway my win98 computer is a dedicated server... BUT my server is NEVER busy... so surely with an extremely quiet server and a 1024k connection the prob im experiencing shouldnt happen.

Maybe it is the software, do you know where else i can download ICS software?

regards, please help me
