Problems with 2008 TS in a 2000 domain

Comment:
I am trying to integrate a 2008 server for TS into a 2000 domain. I am having issues with the TS unable to communicate with the 2000 AD DS. Eventually we will be replacing the 2000 with a 2008. Each ime we try remoting in it says "user profile service failed the logon" unless we are logged on locally to that server already. Am I missing something or is 2008 TS just completely incompatable with server 2000?

You are trying to add this as a member server not as a DC, correct?

Another thing to note is that this is the 64-bit version of Server 2008 if that makes a difference

x64 should not make a difference at this level. I don't know of or heard of incompatibility of 2008 with a 2000 forest. You are not adding it as a DC so there should be no need to run ADPREP.

Yes DNS is pointing to our DC. When i goto the TS lisencing i get the error that "Lisence Server <DC name> cannot issue TS CALs to the Terminal server because of version incompatability".

2000 can't issue licenses to 2003/2008. Reason is they changed the TS model in 2003. In 2000 you only had to buy TS licenses for 98 and below. 2000 and xp were free. Now MS charges for every TS license.
I should have remembered this!
Solution is to run ADprep and upgrade your forest to 2003/2008 and set the TS license server to at least 2003. You will need to buy a TS license for every TS connection.
