problems connecting to internet

I have a Samsung 59" plasma HD3D TV. I bought a wireless lan adaptor but no instructions. I wanted to be able to use the internet without having to connect the PC to the TV. I have put the adaptor into the back of the tv and then gone into network settings. I have sky broadband and accurately set it up but nothing seems to happen. Not sure what else I should be doing. Gone all through the menu and not sure if I should be connecting my modem to the TV. I thought the whole point was for it to be wireless? Please help?
