Problems configuring wireless card

I am trying to configure my wireless card to work with a secure wireless system. This requires configuring the network key using a 40 bit ASCII key format. However, under my wireless network properties, it does not give me the option of selecting either the key format or key length - only the key index. I have Windows SP2, so updating is not the problem. Does anybody know of a workaround for this issue?

It's an Intel 2100A card and I am trying to connect to a university wireless system. They require you to both register your MAC address (which I did) and use an encrypted network key. That's where my problem is - I don't have the option of specifying a 40-bit ASCII format for the network key under Windows' Network Places and the software that Intel provides does not give me that option either.
