You also have to install the drivers from the special drivers cd for your Acer Aspire.
If you haven't got this CD, you'll find such drivers at the Acer homepage.
At first and absolutely necessary are the chipset drivers.

I checked everything on site but i was unsuccesful. On acer web
site there are drivers available only for vista OS and not for
windows XP professional SP3.

I am very tensed because now my audio device on high defination driver is also not working. I tried realtek HD.

I don't know, where the problem is at your side.
I've done the following:
1. www.acer.com
2. selected United States and clicked OK at the bottom of screen
3. clicked Service & Support
4. select Driver Download
5. chose Notebook
6. chose Aspire
7. chose Aspire 1640

And here you are.

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!
