I'd like to host Tomcat server on my home Linux machine. I have an ActionTEC DSL modem, which I have configured to forward port 7188 (mapped to the same 7188) for the Linux machine which runs Tomcat (it's on static IP, although, the DHCP is enabled on the router). The router accepts and remembers the configuration all right. Still, I can't get connected to the server, when I point the browser to the current IP address of my router (later, I'll use the dynDNS).
Details and what I have already tried:
* Firewall is off on the router. NAT is on.
* I have opened the firewall on the Linux machine for this port and tested by connecting to the Tomcat server from another machine on my LAN).
* I know that my ISP doesn't block http, since I'm able to connect to my routers web interface by pointing the browser to the current IP address of my router.
* I checked with tcpdump if the router forwards anything to my Linux machine abd it's seems it doesn't.
* When I tried to telnet to my router from outside, it does listen on port 80 (router's admin interface) but it doesn't listen on port 7188.
* I'm able to telnet and login to the router, but I'm not sure what I can check there to troubleshoot the problem.I'm really stuck. I've spent quite a lot of time, but haven't solved the problem. I'm not a network expert at all. Please, help!!!

Would advise you to disable the firewall on Linux first, don't try too complex setup at first..
Since you already enabled port forwarding on port 7188 on router, then you should be able to access the web server by typing http://<router-public-IP>:7188 on the browser from Internet.
If not working, then check the port forwarding setting again. Aslo make sure there is no routing issue between your router and web server.
Hope helps..
