hi, i have 2 pcs with win98, one machine has a isa ne2000 pnp card and the other is realtek RTL8029 pci nic. i'm using a cross over cable and each machine has no problem with the cards. both are configured on the same protocol (netbeui) & workgroup but they don't see each other in network neighbourhood. Also i've installed the latest windows updates. can anyone help?

Jason I to had this problem @ one stage and found out that cross over connections do not work with certain types of network cards. Also I was using a realtek NIC. Hope that helps.

Jason,
Try using search from the start menu and search for the 2nd computer name. The biggest problem with NetBEUI sometimes is broadcasting for names.
Also, check the lights on the back of the NICs. There should be one or more lights. If you have two, one will tell you if the NIC is getting power, and the other will blink when it is sending and receiving data. If only one, then it should just light up and blink when sending and receiving data.
Have fun!!! at least you didn't start with TCP/IP...
