Comment: Hello, I have a weird problem with my network. One computer has winME and my laptop has winXP on it. I can not see the computers at all in the network neighborhood on both computers. But on the winME system, I can access the winXP system only when I do a "search for computers" and it finds it. The XP system can not see the ME computer at all even with the search. Anyhow, I am able to share internet connection between the two, but am unable to share files and printers. Why is this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Reply: (edit)Win 9x machines are crappy networkers by default. Right-click Network Neighborhood, go to properties. Open the properties for File & Print Sharing for MS Networks. Go to the Advanced tab. Set the values for BrowseMaster & LM Announce to the "Always On" equivalent (I forget what the settings are, I think it's Enabled & Always). Restart both, give it a little time for XP to find 98, and I think you'll be cooking with gas.
