At my work we have a wireless network for internet access and access a to mapped network drive on one of our laptops. 1 of our computers was outside of the wireless range so we ran a network cable outside the building directly to the wireless router.

We recently purchased another computer for that end of the building so instead of wiring a second cable to the wireless router we bought a regular router and hooked both the computers into that and connected the new router directly into the wireless router.

Now our internet works fine on all of our computers but the mapped drive doesn't show up on the two computers hooked into the new router. Is there anyway I can get the mapped drive to show up on these computers without directly wiring both computers to the wireless router?

Thanks.
JSN.

Here are some things to check:
1)Only one of the routers should be running DHCP. Actually, static IPs are better.
2)Make sure that everything is on the same subnet.
3)The WAN port of the regular router should be connected to an internal port of the wireless router.
4)You should be able to ping everything from everywhere.
5)On those 2 PCs at the other end of the building, try start, run, \\IP_of the PC that has the mapped drive. The drive should open. You can create shortcuts on those desktops.

Why is it the in order to extend a network, people get a router, when all they need is a switch. Cheaper to buy and easier to set up.

That's correct but in this case, he said that it was at the other end of the building and some of the clients were wireless. A switch wouldn't help.
