|I got a network of 2 PCs (one is server 2003 and the other one is winXP). I already upgraded the server to a domain controller but the problem is that I can't join winXP to the domain controller. Here is what I've done:|
On winXP: Control panel, System, Computer Name. From here I got 2 options:
Option 1: click Change button, select domain and type the domain name in the box. Click Ok and I got this error:"A domain control for the domain sabas.local could not be contacted. Ensure the domain name is typed correctly. If the name is correct, click Details for troubleshooting information". Clicking on Details button, I got some information as follows:
The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.SABAS.LOCAL
Common causes of this error include the following:
- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.
- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:
. (the root zone)
For information about correcting this problem, click Help.
Option 2: click NetworkID button, select the first radio button (ie. this computer is part of business work,...), Next, select the first radio button on the next window (ie. my computer uses a network with a domain), Next, I typed in Administrator in the username box, leave blank to the password box and domain name in the domain name box. On the next window, I got an error:"windows cannot find an account for your computer on the domain. I continued by typing the computername and domain name in given boxes and I got the same error as I did with option 1 above.
Anybody can tell me what went wrong, please?
Note: when I configured IP addresses for both PCs by selecting Obtain IP address automatically, 2 PCs can ping to each other but when I selected Use the following IP address, only winXP can ping to the server. The server can't ping to winXP.
