Evening

I am trying to fix a computer for a friend and have a major problem.

From both IE7 and Firefox the computer cannot browse any http sites. I can connect to https and FTP. i can ping websites from cmd promt and do a tracert to the site so i know the DNS server is working. I cannot get to any website by entering the IP address into IE or Firefox either.

I have checked all the IP/DNS settings for the network card and run the WinSock fix. The computer can browse the local network and other computers in the network can connect to the internet.

System restore has been switched off by the user.

I have ZoneAlarm and AVG installed and checked the firewall rules. AVG removed one trojan horse but im fairly sure that is not the problem. From the admin tools it looks like the user has tried to un-install Windows Live OneCare but has only deleted the files from Program Files folder and not run the removal tool so i think the restrictions are hidden in the registry.
Anybody have any other suggestions.

Port 80 blocked or not nat/pat'ed correctly would be first guess.

"AVG removed one trojan horse but im fairly sure that is not the problem."

I usually say to not remove virus's. I suggest clean installs when found. Then use best practices to avoid them. It is difficult to know what is going on after them.

Get a puppy, dsl, astrumi or other live cd and try it to prove either OS or local network config.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
