Hello folks, any help you can give me with the following is appreciated:

I recently purchased a new computer, the network card on it is the Realtek RTL8139/810.
This problem has me stumped, and I've tried a few things to fix it.

I have a small network set up at home, all computers are running Windows XP, the newest PC(and the one with the problem) is running Media Center Edition. Whenever I try to ping my default gateway, or any other PC on my network, I sometimes get a 75% loss, but most of the time it's a 100% loss.

I've noticed that SOMETIMES when I "repair" the connection through Network Connections in Control Panel, and I immediately ping my Default Gateway or other PC's, I get the 1 packet that gets through (only once!). After that, every ping session ends in 100% loss when pinging my gateway or any of the other PC's.
I cannot connect to any online services with my new computer, such as Battle.net(Blizzard Entertainment), or even MSN Messenger. Browsing the web works fine though.

The strange thing is that this did not happen at first, but began around the second day from when I bought the computer. On the first day I was playing and logging in to online services. I was also able to ping the other 2 XP PC's on my network. All of a sudden I'm unable to do so.

I can see all the other computers on my network when I type net view in the command prompt, I can even connect to them and share files from my new computer (only through Windows), but I can't ping them successfuly anymore (best I get is a 25% success rate, when I "repair connection").
All firewalls are off, including Windows Firewall.

Before I got this computer I had 1 Windows 98 PC connected to the network, 2 windows XP PC's, and an X-Box (thereby using all ports on the router). I removed the Windows 98 PC from the network because it was too old anyway, and I connected the new one in its place. Can there be some sort of conflict in the router? I've got DHCP enabled on all PC's. I have a D-Link 604 4 port router for my network.

Thanks again for any help

hey Check if they are on the same network, i mean for an example the ip address goes like 192.168.35.1 for pc 1 192.168.35.2 for pc 2 and so on. bec maybe when u changed the computer that had Win 98 on it , it changed the ip or something with the addresses.

you didn't mention but maybe something simple like try another cat5 cable or factory reset the router.

The IP addresses are all on the same network. I actually did try to use another Cat5 cable because the one I was using belonged to the old Windows 98 PC. I switched it with one I knew worked, but it still has the same problem. Resetting the router to its factory defaults is what I'm probably going to have to do.

Thank you for the responses
