Problem with access point

June 12, 2009 at 14:03:06
Specs: Windows XP, Dual Core 2/ 1GB
I want to connect an access point to my router because I want to relocate my PC and and share the internet. There is already a switch between the router and my PC. I thought it would be as easy as connecting the AP on the switch and that's it. Thing is AP wants its own specific IP. So I don't see other way than to put an extra LAN card on the PC, connect the AP to the PC, configure the IP and use another PC.
There should be another way...
Anybody can help ?

The AP should be allocated an IP by the router.

Connect the AP to a LAN port of the switch.

Log into the router Admin interface using your existing wired PC and see if it is listed in the current connections. You should be able to then log into the AP interface to set up your wireless security.
