We have a VPN set up between 2 offices, to which I am having problems accessing a shared folder on one of the remote PCs. The username and
password I'm logging into locally has been set up on the remote PC.If I go to My Computer and enter the PC name, it shows up the shared folders. I can then access one of these 'parent folders' no problem. I can
then see another 'child' folder within this but when double-clicking an hour-glass will appear for approx. 3 minutes before giving me the error '...is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.'At the remote end, they have no problems accessing the same folder(s) using the same login on the LAN. The problem only appears to be when trying to access remotely.
The shared folders are on a PC running W2000 Pro 'Workstation', my PC is running XP Pro SP1. The parent folder's user rights have been configured to pass onto the sub-folders and files, so these should be ok (as proven
locally).Thanks for any help.

Is there a ton of stuff in that folder?
Try putting just one file in that folder and accessing over the vpn. It may be timing out pulling up a list of files or something.

There are 45 files in this particular folder : 4.5mb. If we put in one or two .txt files then access was ok, but once a .dll or .exe (or a lot) was copied into the folder then the error would appear after aprox. 2 minutes.
Is there a way to extend or turn off any timeouts ?

Check the sharing option and security settings of the sub-folder. It's possible that the sub-folder is set up as "not shared" . If it is shared, click the security tab and add the user's name to the list and set the appropriate permissions for that user.
