I have two computers sharing a broadband internet cable connection. Computer A (Pentium III 750Mhz/128Mb RAM) is connected to the internet with ICF installed. It uses a Realtek RTL8029 NIC. Computer B (Pentium III 1.8GHz/256 RAM) connects to Computer A with a similar NIC and also to a backup hard drive via a IEEE1394 firewire connection. The LAN setup includes client for MS, file and printer sharing, QoS packet scheduler and TCP/IP protocols. NetBIOS over TCP/IP is allowed, both computers are in the wame workgroup and have identical network setups. Both computers can see each other (ping works etc) and Computer A can print to the HP laser jet 6L attached to Computer B. Computer B can see/share files on computer A, but although file sharing is allowed, computer A cannot see files on computer B. I do not understand how computer A can 'see' computer B and print to a network printer attached to computer B but not share files on the hard drives on computer B. Computer B does not have ICF installed. Any thoughts??

Got no responses to my problem, but finally established the error is due to an incompatibility between XP Pro and Norton Anti-Virus. Diagnosis: get in to 'Computer Management' fom Win Explorer, by right clicking on 'My Computer>Manage'. Under 'System Tools>System' there are error messages including on which says 'The server's configuration parameter "irpstacksize" is too small for the server to use a local device', described as Event ID 2011. Cure: go to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=177078 which describes Event ID 2011 as happening after installation of NAV. The problem is solved by editing the registry to increase the IRPStackSize value. This solved it for me.
