Been patting myself on the back, as a home networking newbie, for being able to install a wireless router for the first time. D-Link router DI-624 with Win98 connected via Ethernet cable and XP-Pro connected via D-Link's wireless adapter DWL-G132. Router is connected to cable modem on WAN side. Much to my surprise, I was also able to set up Internet sharing, and file sharing over the LAN. They're both working beautifully, although it seems to take a couple minutes for the LAN to "boot up" from a cold start. HOWEVER, can't seem to get print sharing set up and working. Have Epson C86 printer installed on Win98 as the print server. Printer icon on the Win98 indicates that the Epson is indeed a shared printer. I also made sure I installed this printer's drivers on BOTH machines. Am able to see the printer from the remote XP-Pro, but can't seem to get it to print anything from the remote XP-Pro. I followed the XP-Pro's Wizard to install it as network printer. All I get is a vague XP-Pro error message "Unable to find printer on the server. Unable to connect." The print job appears in the print cue with an even more vague error message under the Status column. I don't know why these error messages since the printer shows up in the XP-Pro's Network Neighbourhood window!? Have tried uninstalling and re-nstalling print sharing on both PCs several times, but no luck. Any suggestions, please?

What you want is \\computername\sharename the share name can be set different than the printer device name. Try not to use spaces or any special characters in the either name.
Go to Start -> Run. Type in the Windows 98 computer name like this \\computername
should bring up a window where you see the printer and any other shares. double click on the printer and see what happens.

Did as you suggested and got the following message:
"Before you can use the printer '\\UP\EPSON' it must be set up on your computer. Do you want Windows to set up the printer and continue this operation?"
This puzzles me because the printer is already set up. I installed it on the Win98 a year ago, and set it up as a SHARED printer from the Win98. Indeed, the XP-Pro, that is connected wirelessly to the LAN, can see the printer as \\UP\EPSON from its own NETWORK PLACES.
Or does this message mean I have to set the printer up as both a SHARED AND a NETWORK printer on the Win98. According to the home networking documentation I have, it is only suppose to be necessary to designate the printer as a SHARED printer from the Win98, that it is directly connected to, and then go to the other computers on the LAN and install the printer as a NETWORK printer on those other computers (including install the printer's drivers on those computers).
I saw this message before. A few days ago, during one of my iterations to try to install print sharing, I did in fact try following the message's suggestion and let Windows set up the printer, which appeared to me to simply be a re-installation of the printer itself (unnecesary!?) But again, to no avail.
What am I missing please?
