hello everyone..
i have a print server that's connected to the network and the activity led shows that it's working properly. but i can't find the IP address. how can i find it?
well one of the ways was, i remember once i installed HP network printer, the installation wizard could detect the IP address which was like 169.xxx.xxx.xxx although the network subnet mask was 255.255.255.0, as i've learned before is that with the 24-bit subnet mask i can see only 254 clients from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255 for example.. how could that installation wizard detect the IP address of 169.xxx.xxx.xxx ??? Can i acheive this with a simple network scanner to find the IP address of the print server regardless of the IP range consideration?

i hope i could demonstrate the idea in the right way!!!!

Usually you go thru the config menu on the network printer and set the ip address. 169.x.x.x indicates it is set for dhcp but you don't have a dhcp server.
Consult the documentation for the printer on how to set the ip address.

Uhm, have you tried the manufacturer's web site for the print server?

Maybe you can find how to restore to factory defaults, then set it up.

Download and run Angry IP Scanner. This utility will run whatever range you want and return all the active IP addresses on the network, as well as their host names.
