okay i dont know if any of you have herd of these but im sure you have. http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/448 (for example)
i have been looking into making one of these to connect to my friends wirless network who lives a block or two away (350 meteres at max). this way we can share files etc and variiouse other thigns
that aside i have noticed that alot of the google sites i have found say they are "directional", so i was wondering if i made one of these, would it work in somewhat of a range?
if that didnt make any sense just say so ill try and explain it beter
thanks
Yagi antennas are directional and will increase the range. The normal rod antenna that comes with a Wireless Router are omni- directional. The means that with a Yagi the RF energy is directed mostly in one direction instead of being spread equally around 350 degrees. It increase the apparent signal strength when receiving as well. Your terrestrial TV antenna is a Yagi.
Whether is will work over 350 meters is impossible to say. A lot depends on how well the antenna is constructed and the number of passive elements in the antenna. The only way to tell is to suck it and see.
