How do you find out what program a port uses? Thanks!
IANA's list of well-known, registered and dynamic ports will tell you what ports a large number of programs should be using.
Ethereal can sniff your network and determine what ports are in use. This information can be used to deduce what processes are using those ports.
Of course, the simplest answer to your question is another question. What program are you asking about? Chances are, somebody already knows what port it uses and can save you the trouble of having to use any of the above mentioned tools.
