I've had a router for a long time now (SMC7004VBR) which has forwarded my ports just fine. Now it's not. Nothing has changed on the PC or the router. The programs I'm using are giving me an IP of 207.216.215.198 of which I cannot find anywhere on my PC. My PC's address is 192.168.2.136 which is a normal router IP. Also this is happening to a few friends about 7km away from me with similar programs. Their ports have been properly forwarded for a long time till now (they have the 2wire 2700HG-E). It also doesn't matter if it is a static IP or dynamic. So why is this happening all of a sudden???

Which program shows you the ip 207.216.215.198 ?
Is it shown as your local assigned ip ?

What does ipconfig /all show to you ?

Soulseek and uTorrent shows me 207.216.215.198 and it is not shown as my assigned IP in network connetions.

ipconfig /all shows me 255.255.255.0 subnet, 192.168.2.1 for the rest and 192.168.2.136 for my IP. I've reset my modem, router and PC to no avail. I've done renew and release and repair as well.

Maybe it's your public ip, shown in µTorrent.

Check the http://whatismyip.com. This will show you your public ip address.

I went to the IP site and it showed a normal IP (one which is not run through a router). But the IP on the PC is the routers address.

The IP address 207.216.215.198 is from
TELUS Communications Inc.

and it's out of a dynamic range of that ISP.

Maybe it's your ISP?

Try to also check the portforwarding settings on your router. Possible that the router might got reset or something.

It may be my ISP, but I'll have to call them tomorrow. I checked the router and it's all normal. I really don't know where the IP 207.216.215.198 is coming from on my PC though.

OK, I've noticed something. When I goto a site and ask it to show me my IP, it shows me my router's WAN IP instead of the Gateway IP which is the one that needs to be used so I can forward ports. So how can I switch them? I also noticed on my friends PC, her router is like mine but hers forwards ports even though the 2 IP's are different.

You simply have to forward the ports you'd like to forward to the local ip of the pc hosting the service, listening to that port.

Check this with your ISP to confirm your settings.

Then describe what you did to forward the ports.

This router is pretty old are you sure it hasn't just crashed or failed? Did you try doing a firmware upgrade? If your not sure check with SMC support for help with this.

You wrote, that you're using an SMC7004VBR Router.
So, I don't know, which ports you've configured in µTorrent to communicate with the internet respectively to allow other µTorrent clients to connect to your PC.
But this port (ports) must be forwarded to your PCs IP address in the router configuration. So if your PC has the IP address 192.168.2.136, there must be a forwarding rule to that IP address for the µTorrent ports.

For uTorrent I have selected the 44000 port. But uTorrent wants me to forward the port to the WAN IP which is 207.216.215.198, but the IP that the ports are being forwarded for are 192.168.2.136 which is what my PC says it's IP is.

So WAN IP: 207.216.215.198
My IP: 192.168.2.136 behind the router

Also my ISP is difficult to deal with in these matters. What I don't understand is that I've had these same settings for 4 years now forwarding the right ports and everything was working and then now, all of a sudden my router is being wierd and so are some of my friends routers within a few Km's from here.

Something strange now, but good. My Soulseek still sees the WAN's IP but says my port is open and now Soulseek works. My uTorrent says the port is closed but works perfectly. So I really am confused but glad all is working.

Thank you for helping me and I hope I can understand why these things are working.
