I run 5 POP3 email accounts via Outlook Express. I'm on a small LAN behind a DSL modem/router that provides a broadband connection for the network (about 4 PCs).

POP3 emails can be received perfectly, however I'm having problems sending them. With every single account (with various domains and mail servers) I get the same error message (shown below). I've doublechecked smtp settings for each account and they're right. Two of the accounts were working fine post-installation of the router, but stopped working about a month ago. The other three accounts are all new, and also won't work.

I've disabled the firewall on the router, along with Windows ICF. None of it makes any difference... Anyone got any suggestions (baring in mind that I need the router up, I need the LAN up and I need the broadband conn- changing hardware isn't an option for me).

In Outlook Express, click tools, the options, then then accounts. Select each account, click properties, then the servers tab.

Look under Outgoing Mail Servers and see of the box is checked or not. Which ever way it is, try the opposite and see if that works.

You might want to call your ISP and ask if their Outgoing Mail Servers requires authentication and go over the settings with them.

To me it doesn't sound like a hardware problem, more like a configuration problem with the accounts themselves.

I have the exact same set up as you with the DSL modem/router with no problems.
