poor WLAN card performance on Dell

My last company's Dell D600 Latitude used the Intel ProSet wireless card, while my new company assigned Dell D600 uses the Dell WLAN 1350 card, which is manufactured by Broadcom. This card suffers from very poor signal strength, while the other laptop with the Intel card works just great. I am using a DLink wireless router. It would be great if Dell could go back to using the Intel card. I also like the Intel utility for managing my wireless connections much better than the Dell/Broadcom utility. Does anyone know of a way to improve the performance on my current WLAN card?
