I am having problems with my wireless network. There are two laptops in our family, both of which can roam around the house, including in my room, with 90% signal. However my dektop does not get any signal at all. I was using a linksys PCI card. We also had a spare netgear usb adapter, which I tried with the same problem. If I move the desktop into the same room as the AP I get excellent signal. But even a single wall reduces signal dramtically, where as the laptops are fine.
So my question is are PCMCIA cards typically more powerfull than PCI cards and USB adapters or have I just got two rubish ones?
Also any solutions would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at repeaters but they seem to only be compatible with APs of the same brand and BT VOYAGER (my AP band) does not make a repeater. I saw Linksys does a high gain ariel for £30 but it might just be better to buy a new card if anyone could recommend a really good one. Also I'm intrigued by the new broadband over the power circuits. Seems like witch craft, has anyne tried it?
All comments welcome. Many thanks
