Hi, I really dont know if i should get the SMC 7004AWBR or the Linksys BEFW11S4. I am a home user with a pc donwstairs and a laptop upstairs. The distance is about 100 to 150 feet with 3 walls in between. I am looking for best performance on pc to laptop transfer speed and would like to know if wireless networking will slow down my internet speed for the laptop, (dsl modem is downstairs with the pc).
I have also heared the phoneline networking, would anyone suggest that?
Please help!!! Thank you soooo much everyone.poor guy. =(

Well, you know the trend is toward wireless technology and the speeds and performance are getting better all the time. The nice part is that you can pick up a wireless home networking kit and if it doesn't work out for you, you can always pack it back up and send it back to the store. Doing that with CAT5 tends to leave ugly holes in the wall to spackle and paint.
Currently you still sacrifice speed & some reliability to go wireless. A CAT5 installation goes 100MBS with near-100% reliability. Wireless still pokes along at 5-10MBS and God help you if you have metallic-print wallpaper or live by a military base. For applications other than d/ling large files or the like you barely notice the difference, for those you prefer the extra speed.
Both those routers have very good reviews so you'll be equally satisfied with either of them, performance wise. The SMC 7004AWBR includes a print server port so you can hook up a printer to it to use 24/7. You can't beat a wireless system for expandability. You don't have to crawl through the attic draggng CAT5 wire and drilling holes to add a 3rd PC to your network. You'll probably find at some point that you want to add on, incidently.
Like I said, pick up a wireless networking kit, try it, and if you don't like it you can take it back.
