I"ve tried this problem many times before but no one seemed to be able to help
OK i got to cable connectoins hooked up on a linksys 4 port cable/dsl router. In the past, whenever i used to go to the "My Connections" window, there just used to be the standard LAN connection on both computers, Now in the "My Connections" window not only do i have my LAN connection , but also a connection that says "INternet Gateway" on both computers, and this connection is enabled. If i disable this connection, my internet doesnt work so i have to have it enabled. The reason i dont want it there is because it is at a much slower speed then my regular LAN connection. I do not know how this conection got there but even when i restore my router to the factory defaults by pressing the reset button , the connection goes away , but then comes back in a minute and is enabled again. CAn anyone tell me how to not have this connection and just brose the internet with my standard LAN connection , thank you btw both my comps are running xp pro thank you please give me any advice

This is your gateway to the internet. The LAN connection that you are taking about (I think) is the connection between the two computers. Both of these computers connect to the Linksys which is connected to the internet. The connection speeds for DSL are not as fast as everyone says but are much faster than if you had a 56K modem connected to an ISP.

If you don't want to share the Internet connection then you can get rid of the Linksys and just connect one PC to it. But you then loose the LAN connection. Which brings up the point that you would have to put another NIC card in the PC to go to both the Internet and to keep your LAN connection.

Final point, the lan connection may appear to slow down if you are going to the internet and also trying to use the Lan.
