I have 2 XP-Home Comps with a Network in my house and it won't let you play games over the Network using TCP/IP or IPX.
- 2 PC's with XP Home
- A Microsoft Wireless Network MN-500 Base, MN-510 Adaptor(But it acts the same way as a normal Network)
- The Host computer is connected to the internet using a cable modem (Roadrunner by Time Warner Cable)
- I can share files/folders
- I can access the internet via the remote computer
- I share a printer
- I have these items installed in my connections: "Client for Microsoft Networks", "Service Advertising Protocol", "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks", "Network Monitor Driver", "NWLink NetBIOS", "NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol", "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
- My XP Firewall is turned off
- And honestly, I cannot get any game to work. (Have tried: Baldur's Gate, StarCraft, Heroes of M & M IV, Half Life)
- I have the MN-500's Modem Slot connected directly to my Cable Modem with an RJ-45 Cord. Then, I have the slot labeled "1" on my MN-500 connected with another RJ-45 to the downstairs computer. The Wireless adaptoris connected with a Serial Cable (I think that's what you call that cable- A long black one with a rectangular end.) to the Upstairs computer.Tell me what other information you need and I'll gladly tell you. I've been dying to get this problem fixed. Please help! Thanks. ;)

Yea that freaking sucks...
You have to do this thing called port forwarding and what it does is it opens the ports allowing you to play the games..
what you need is
-to find out the ports used on each game (technical support on each game site should have this)
-Access your router (advise look it up in your book or help to figure out what port fowarding is)
-Input the ports and and restart and there you go hopefully it works...
I don't play many games but I play Aoe2 and I had to figure out how to do this also.. Sometimes the game works and sometimes it doesnt =/
