Hi,
I was wondering can this be done. Has anyone had success in doing it. I have tried different proxies and tried to configure the ports, but I still can't connect to Yahoo Games.
Can anyone suggest any proxies to use and/or give me straight forward instructions to configure the proxy.
At the moment I am using Winproxy 30
Thanks,
Ben

You didn't mention which version of Windows you are using but if you're using windows 95 or Windows 98 then you're really going to have problems like I did.I had the same problems connecting two computers when I was using windows 95 and 98.I couldn't get into Napster,Yahoo games etc until I switched from Windows 98 to Windows ME.I suggest you switch to Windows ME.Setting up internet connection is very easy with Windows ME.Good Luck.

Thanks I might try that!
I'm using Windows 98 Second Edition on both computers. Although I did have 2000 on one and the other on 98 and that still did the same thing.
Any more suggestions are welcome!
Thanks
Ben

Ben,
You've probably sorted this by now, but I just came across your posting whilst trying to sort my own problems accessing Yahoo Games across a proxy. I couldn't find an answer posted anywhere, so you may still be interested in what worked for me.
I eventually found that using IE 5.5, all I had to do was get to the point where I could resolve the IP address for the games server (yog4.yahoo.games in my case, but you could be anything from yog1 to yog33) from my client. You can see the name of the server you're directed at from the browser status bar when you fail(or your proxy log). I can ping yog4.yahoo.games from my proxy server (but not my client) which gives me the IP address of 216.115.106.128.
For the moment, I've just stuck a line in my client's 'C:\Windows\hosts' file reading:
216.115.106.128 yog4.yahoo.com
- and now all works as if by magic. Proxy log shows IE5 making a SOCKS4 call to this address.
I can also get it working with Nescape Communicator 4.74, but that's a bit trickier. I need the same 'hosts' entry but also have to run Communicator under SOCSCAP since it never makes the SOCKS call if left to its own devices.
I use Jana Server for the proxy, but I think anything correctly configured to proxy SOCKS4 as well as HTTP should work the same. I'm on Windows '98 for client and proxy incidentally.
Of course one day the server or IP will change on me and I'll have to edit 'hosts' again, so if anyone can tell me how to get DNS lookup working as well from my client as it does from my proxy, that'd be much better. Do I need a DNS server on my proxy? Is there a free one available?

I just started networking myself, and I had simular problems with icq with sending files, ive found out when I use SOCKS5 proxy everything seems to work better, especially icq with sending and recieving files, I would also give that a shot, send me a email of what you think.
