I am using
one Realtek 8139c PCI fast ethernet card
and one NE2000 compatible card in another
and using cross cable
but the network is not being established
THe network neighbourhood shows individual comps but not the other one
I can ping myself but not the other one
i have done all the usual troubleshooting steps
please help

u trying to network two pcs together,or network 2 pcs together and both use the internet..
have u enabled file sharing on each pc ?
also put all drives as sharing...read only/full/depends on password??
write back with more info please

Do you have any conflicts with your hardware? Are your NICs setup correctly?

Try to ping you loopback (127.0.0.1)
Did it work? If yes I would check your cables. Take it from me (CCNA) 99% of the time it is a Layer 1 problem.

I would put money down that your cable is bad or the ends need to be re-crimped/replaced.

One other thing, go into your device manager and set your NICs to run at 10Mbps/half-duplex. This will only use 2-pair instead of 4-pair.

An incorrect speed could cause this problem. More than likely your NE2000 cards are only 10Mbps. I have had similar problems in the past.

Is solved My Ne2000 compatible NIC was probably bad i changed it and my problem was solved
