Hi,
i am networking 2 computers (desktop to a laptop) using a crossover cable for a LAN connection. I have entered all IP and subnet addresses, shared the appropriate files, named the same workgroup on both computers, disabled DNS on 98, checked the cable to be working and re-installed the network cards...however i am still having a problem...
The 98 machine will ping the 2000 using the IP address, both machines will ping themselves BUT the 2000 wont ping the 98, neither will ping the others name, nor will they see each other on network neighbourhood/places..but they do see themselves.
What am i doing wrong??
Any help would be appreciated as i just dont what else i could do apart from making both machines 2000 or buying a hub.
Regards,
Sach

Hi Gav,
I am using a crossover cable. I have 2 now. One which was made and one which is moulded. Both give me the same problem.

i bet you have entered a mistake on the win 98 machine's ip. it would ping the 2000 , see itself in the network N, and 2000 wont ping it at all. check the 98 ip and mask again
