I suspect the moderators of an online game I play cheat me by inducing lag.
They can see my IP address through the server.
I seem to recall there is a ping command that would initiate a pinging loop(repeatedly ping an IP).
Could a corrupt moderator once knowing my IP, use this or some other method to induce lag? Thanks

Lag is a function of the time it takes a packet to travel through the Internet path from your system to their server, and the amount of time it takes their server to handle the request.
The Lag time can vary depending on your line connection (errors?), other traffic in the ISP's networks and the Internet backbone. As well as the load on their server.
Now if they or someone else were to start pinging you as you suggest, you would see additional Lag, as your connection (modem to ISP's modem) would be carrying the extra traffic.
You should be able to detect this with TCP/IP trace tools or packet counting software and looking for extra packets coming into your system. If found, I would suspect some other user, not the host server.

Thanks for the response JackG,
There are a couple of players who just happen to also be moderators, whenever they play against me I oftentimes experience major lag and exceed the games lag limits which boots me from the game. Rarely do I ever have problems with lag except when these players(moderators) are online.
I'd like to have the knowhow to use trace tools and to know how to interpret the results but its probably a bit over my head.
