My friend's computer will ping in a DOS Window but will not connect to the Internet in Windows. My ISP (Time Warner) said they could see the computer and router but that I should contact D-Link for help because they felt it was a router issue. After completing all of the suggestions from D-Link, the tech stated that I must have a hidden anti-virus and or firewall that HP has in their software for a Pavillion M400Y. He said to contact HP. What is strange is that all of the lights on the modem and the router show that they are functioning properly. Also, this is a wireless router and my friend has a MAC on a laptop upstairs and it can access the internet. Go figure... Anyone have a suggestion or help? TIA

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can not access the DLink software via 192.168.0.1 on the computer. On thing I have not tried and I don't know if it would help, is doing a re-set on the router.I may have to run the recovery disk set from HP. I really don't want to do that so I am looking for help here. Thanks again.

Here is what I suggest: Try changing the DNS servers. You either use the ones that your primary ISP provides or use www.opendns.com. The following instructions will help with this procedure:
1. Open up Control Panel 2. Click on Network Connections 3. Right Click the LAN connection and go to Properties 4. Go to the Network Tab 5. Select TCP/IP and click on properties 6. From here change the Primary and Alternative DNS.
