I have added a Win2K Pro system to my network, which consists of a Linksys router with 4 port switch, and 2 Win98se machines. I have DHCP enabled. I can access the web on all machines. The Win2K machine can also access the Personal Web Server I have running on one of the Win98se machines. I'm using TCP-IP as the only protocol. I have shares set on all drives, and have the same login name and password on all machines, and have that same un/pw set on the win2K userlist. I do have passwords set on the win98se shares, but none set on the Win 2K shares. All machines belong to the same workgroup name. The problem is that none of the win98se machines appear in the Win2K 'My Network Places', or in Windows Explorer, and the Win2K machine is not appearing in Network Neighborhood on either Win98se machine. However, both win98se machines can see each other. I've been through dozens of similar messages here but I haven't found anything that helps. Any suggestions are appreciated. TIA, Michael2600

as far as I know you need IPX/SPX or NetBeu (not TCP/IP) protocols as well as Client for MS Windows installed for windows P-P networking.

Solved my own prob - here it is for you lurkers out there -
In addition to setting the user names and passwords, one also has to include the user groups as well that correspond to the user name, and that they have permissions at least as high as the username does. Once I got that set, everything showed up on all systems. No netbios required, pure tcp-ip.

Hey Michael, I am having the same problem with XP. I have WIN XP PC I want 2 other PCs to use for file and print sharing. I have the same router. Modem directly into it and all PCs directly into it also. I can't get anything going close to a peer to peer connection to see each other on the net. This is my first network at home, but have a good understanding of the systems. I am also only using TCP/IP , all systems have internet access at this time too. Could you explain in a little more detial how you set yours up? TIA!!!! HALO
