Hi, I've just connected my desktop computer with a laptop using peer to peer networking, i can see all files that i required but are unable to connect to the net!
The desktop computer has 2 network cards (1 for the cable modem and the other for peer to peer networking)
i set the desktop IP to 192.168.0.1, subnet mask as 255.255.255.0, and the gateway as 192.168.0.1
Laptop IP to 192.168.0.2, subnet mask as 255.255.255.0, and the gateway as 192.168.0.1
I've shared the internet connection (nic 1) and am not sure why i can't get into the net on the laptop!
Any ideas?
thanks

You have your gateways wrong. The gateway of your second nic on the desktop needs to be to IP of you internet connected nic.

That is incorrect. The gateway address is that of the internal nic, not the Internet-facing nic.
Matchbox, you say you "shared the internet connection". How did you actually do this? Did you run the ICS setup wizard? Are you sure you shared the Internet-facing nic, rather than the internal one?

hi iamc,
I set up the "shared internet connection" through ICS Setup wizard... how do i get the internal nic instead of the Internet facing nic?
thanks for your help again!
