I have 2 dell pc's (1 laptop , 1 desktop) attached to a LinkSys Wireless router. The Desktop is hard-wired and the laptop is wireless. My printer is attached via usb to the desktop. My pc's share internet access through the router just fine and have for some time. My Cable modem is attached to the "intenet" port on Router. I am trying to get the pc's to share a printer and to share files and I cannot get it to work!!
I have tried to ping one pc from the other and it times out and fails. The windows firewall on both pc's are disabled. The "Workgroup" is the same on both pc's.
The specs on the laptop are as follows:
Dell Inspiron, Windows XP Home sp2, Intel Celeron 1.4 Ghz, 504 of Ram.
The Router is a LinkSys Wireless Model WRT54G.

How can I share my printer and share files between the pc's?

Please help!

You didn't mention two critical elements:

1.) do you have file and print sharing enabled?

i.e under: "my network places", "properties" the appropriate local area connection - "properties", enable "file and print sharing".

2.) on the appropriate printer have you enabled "share"? Should have a icon of a hand under it.

i.e. under "printer and faxes", the appropriate printer "sharing" select "share this printer".

Ditto for the files or harddrive you want to share as it is for printer setup.

D,
Thanks for the reply! I checked the things you asked about and they were ok. After talking to a guy off line, I realized that my norton internet security firewall may be turned on - it was. I turn it off on both PC's and the problem was solved!
(sorry i didn't mention using norton...)
Thanks again,
V
