As long as I leave the "wireless network" unsecured the laptop will see my network, when I secured the network, it can not see the network, but can see the neighbors. When I refresh connections sometimes it will but an still unable to connect.

When you secure the wireless network, make sure you're not enabling the "hide SSID" feature.
